HomePlug – In 2006, Yitran’s IT800 transceiver technology was selected as the baseline technology for the HomePlug Command and Control standard, following a bake-off including nine other companies from around the world. Additional evaluation and comparisons were conducted by Microsoft, Siemens, LG, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, RadioShack, GE, Haier, Motorola and others.
Echonet – In 2004, Yitran was selected as the C standard by the Echonet forum in Japan.
Narrowband PLC operates below 500Khz and broadband PLC from 2-30 Mhz. Narrowband technology transmits 10s Kbps and broadband10Mbps.
It is important to select the technology according to the application. Low speed PLC has a longer signal range and is more reliable for control networks including in home connectivity. Low speed also requires less power, making the solution cost less expensive as well as more energy efficient.
There is no real meaning to a maximum range for the Powerline Communication since the distance depends on the power line conditions (noise, load, etc.). In general, IT700 provides full connectivity in a standard size home (indoor). In an outdoor environment, IT700s signal can run for a kilometer on LV lines and several kilometers under ideal power line conditions (i.e. mid-voltage).
